La vita e come quello

stone-hand-of-buddha

“…how sweet the sound,

that saved a wretch like me.

I once was lost, but now I’m found.

Was blind, but now I see”

Dear Bridget,

I spent four days with our second son.

Remember how we left each other in the middle of that steel town, when I held him in my arms…

Now he encircles me with his.

We drove…and talked, along the cliffs of California, skirting the edge of the earth.

That night,  I saw your face in a dream…still seventeen.

We were laughing, like we laughed before.

Do you remember?

All that time slipped so thoroughly away…like sliding on sand.

In the summer, I will see our first son… and hold my breath till then.

They are capable men…these boys we made, forty-four years ago…fine and decent.

I’m glad you told them about me.

I’m glad they looked.

I remember the promises…even the end…but this time, I won’t let them go.

We squeezed the life out of love, holding so tight…

But I wish it wasn’t too late, to see you again.

Maybe, just to tell you…

The boys are fine.

But, you know that…and everything else.

Love,

Walter

  1. What a lovely and heartfelt letter. I’m so happy for you, Walter.

  2. The stone hand of Buddha, with flowers. 44 years is nothing to him.

  3. Very good blog post. I certainly appreciate this site.

    Stick with it!
